Camp Rotary is a summer camp where a multitude of campers with special needs go to enjoy "the camp experience". There is a "Diabetic Camp" and also "Camp Goodtime" for children living with cancer or having a history of cancer. Each summer there are some 42 support staff and we host roughly 500 campers ranging in age from 7-30 years old that get to call Camp Rotary home.

The INSIDE OUT, was born from a great need. The biggest problems were this past camp season. There were many but the one that resonated the loudest with us was that during rainy days and very hot sunny days that the campers had to remain indoors. Understanding that most of these campers are housebound every day of their lives, due to their mobility and wheel/power chair issues, it pulled on our heart strings to hear that they were yet again staring at 4 walls. So we thought how do we bring the inside out! Hey lets build a huge "picnic shelter".

We took the idea back to our club and with a unanimous vote, we set out to build this shelter.

Gable Enterprises in Norton was contacted and a very kind gentleman there prepared a report giving us the proper support and load information and offered a great price for the roof truss system. However, who would build it?

We awarded the job to Derek Kilfillen Construction of Minto. They were absolutely excellent to deal with. The ground was broken less than 3 weeks before camp opened! Mr. Kilfillen and his crew ran into some problems and had a couple of minor setbacks, the machine used to bore the huge holes which were to be cemented to anchor this building securely broke down. Mr. Kilfillen called and advised us of what had happened, and guaranteed us that Come May 28th when the 42 councillors arrived he would have it finished. On May the 19th 2010 the "inside out was no longer a dream it was a reality.

Tattoo, a senior councillor with some 6 plus years at Camp Rotary, expressed - "we are so grateful", "this is perfect and I can't wait until the campers come and see it". " We can fit every camper underneath of it".

So was the cost of $26,000.00 dollars worth it?
DARN RIGHT IT WAS!

From this year forward a 1,350 square foot free standing "inside out" will be there protecting campers from rain and sun and enabling them to enjoy to the fullest the camp experience, it will be there ensuring that the campers would leave having had a full week of life long memories to cherish.
The "inside out" was designed to be maintenance free for a minimum of 25 years!

The Rotary Club of Rothesay Kings THANK EVERYONE WHO CONTINUE TO SUPPORT our many fund raising efforts and thanks to them hundreds of children over the next QUARTER CENTURY will have "the best summer ever"

Also, special thanks to incoming Rothesay Kings Rotary President - Chris Dunham for his tireless efforts on this project.

Kim Shaw
PR Chair
Rothesay-Kings Rotary Club

Rothesay Kings Rotary Welcomes New Members

Recently, a special Induction Evening was held at the Riverside Golf and Country Club to welcome three new members to the club. With the addition of these new bikes a total of 24 mountain bikes are available each day for students to enjoy. The new bikes will also allow for full class instruction to occur during regularly scheduled Phys. Ed. classes. With winter now only weeks away the students of Croft are also preparing for the upcoming snowshoeing and skiing season. Thanks to the Rotary Club, upgrades to the school's skis and snowshoes will also be happening soon.
The donation was made through proceeds from the Miramichi Rotary Pond Hockey Tournament.
